“Become aware of the shins and calf muscles and the sensations in the lower legs,” says the familiar voice, avuncular and soft. My tabby Lolo walks around my feet, then settles.

“Let go of the tendency of wanting things to be different from how they are now, and allow things to be exactly as you find them.”

The recording says, “Just be right here as you are right now,” and the thought of the ride fades, my dad’s Tour de Grief replaced by the heaviness of my body on the beige shag carpet.
